Well-Child Visits

Well-Child Visits

Well-child visits (also called well visits or checkups) are one of the best ways to protect your child’s health before problems start. Starfish Pediatrics in Baymeadows provides well-child exams for newborns, toddlers, children, and teens, with plenty of time to talk about your child’s growth, development, and behavior.

A well-child visit is a routine preventive checkup that assesses your child’s health, growth, and development. It’s different from a sick visit because your child doesn’t need to be ill to go. Even children who seem perfectly healthy should attend regular checkups.

Routine preventive care at Starfish Pediatrics helps you stay ahead of your child’s health through screenings, vaccines, and open conversations with your pediatrician.

Vaccines are one of the safest and most effective ways to protect your child from serious illness. Starfish Pediatrics in Baymeadows provides childhood immunizations for newborns, toddlers, children, and teens, and keeps your child on schedule at every well visit.

What Happens During a Well-Child Visit?

A well visit at Starfish Pediatrics includes:

  • Complete physical exam
  • Immunizations and vaccinations, updated and kept on schedule
  • Growth, development, and behavior assessment
  • Lab tests, including bloodwork and urinalysis, when needed

Tell your care team about any prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements your child takes. Your pediatrician partners with you to support your child’s growth and development at every stage.

How Often Should My Child Have a Well Visit?

The right schedule depends on your child’s age and health.

Newborns (first well visit within 3-5 days of birth)
Starfish Pediatrics recommends that every newborn have a well-child exam within 3-5 days of birth. Your pediatrician will perform a physical exam, check for signs of illness or birth defects, and give vaccines. They’ll also teach you and other caregivers about feeding, diaper changes, and swaddling.

Toddlers and children under 5 (about every 6 months)
Your pediatrician may recommend checkups every six months. Each visit tracks growth and development and keeps vaccines and immunizations current.

Children and teens, ages 6 and up (once a year)
Annual well visits are generally recommended. Children with chronic conditions such as asthma or diabetes may need more frequent checkups.

Once your child becomes a patient, our team will create a personalized checkup schedule based on their needs.
